Before you read this, you might want to grab a cup of coffee and have a seat because I have a lot on my heart that I need to get out.
I came to the realization yesterday that I haven’t been 100% authentic to myself and to you.
But first let me provide a little background for you.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve never felt like I fit in.
Are you shocked by any of these? I've done a good job of not talking about them.
I mean I basically do the opposite of what you see on social media every day and I feel like an outcast. #antibandwagongirl I feel like I don't fit in. Can you relate?
These last few months I’ve really been struggling with this concept of fitting in. Why do we try to fit in? Why do we try to be like everyone else? I’m pretty sure this world would be entirely too boring if we all did the same things. I mean I'm pretty sure it's ok that we are different.
Ultimately I think it’s because we feel safe inside our little box. If we fit in, we won’t stand out. People can’t criticize us if we’re just like them right?
And this doesn’t just apply to our personal lives. It overflows into how we seek to improve our health. We fall for the latest and greatest shiny objects of the diet world because everyone else is doing them and has success, so we might as well do them too. I know this because I’ve been there too. If it worked for them, it must work for me, right?
So can we please stop with the...
-detox and cleanse BS?
-counting and tracking every little thing?
-watching our weight?
-high risk circus workouts?
In other words, stop trying to do what everyone else is doing. Here's a newsflash for you: There's nothing NEW in the fitness industry. It's all the same, just repackaged with fancy buzzword to make you think it's different.
Over the years I have paid lots of money for the “secrets” to a successful coaching program much like many of you (and me) have paid for the secret to fat loss. I created cheat sheets, ebooks, a low priced online coaching group (no longer available) and all those things did was leave me frustrated because I was focused on what people said they wanted (what I was told they wanted) instead of what they really needed.
Everyone thinks they want a diet and workout plan to lose X number of pounds but what they really want and what they are searching for is confidence.
They want to feel confident in their own skin.
They want to feel good about themselves.
They want to try on clothes without it being stressful.
And that confidence we seek is gained through a coach not some ebook or program. It’s gained by building a relationship, a connection, with a coach that actually holds us accountable and out of that relationship, we will transform our mind and body.
That is why I became a coach and this is what Ripped by Rycroft is about:
I've fallen away from this by chasing the shiny object and trying to fit in. Today that changes. It's time for authentic, realistic, and transparent talk. I'm going back to my roots, the passion that started all of this. You with me?
If so, I encourage you to take things to the Next Level because I'm looking forward to building a tribe of confident women who aren't here just to fit in.
