Welcome to Feature Friday, where I will introduce you to some of my amazing sisters in fitness. If you missed my first few posts in the series, just click on the Feature Friday category to the right to see all of the amazing women I have featured. The ladies featured in this series rise above the fitness industry BS of quick fixes, detoxes, cleanses and/or working out for hours every week in order to achieve results. I am confident that you will find them encouraging and inspirational to your fitness journey.
Today I'm honored to introduce you to Fabienne Marier of Wholly Fabi. Fabi was inspired to become a coach after her youngest child was born during her early 30s. She felt like she hit a wall: while it seemed that she had checked all the boxes in terms of what she was supposed to want for her life, she was feeling listless -- was that all that life was about?
This inspired her to get out of her comfort zone and challenge herself to expand her horizons, both physically and in terms of mindset. This created such powerful shifts in her life that she couldn't imagine not paying it forward.
Her passion is to do her part to make the conversation about health and fitness as inclusive and body-positive as possible. It's a tall order, but there's no way she can sit back and be quiet! The one thing she wishes all women would practice when it comes to their health is the art of compassion. She realizes this may seem bizarre, especially as the mainstream fitness industry keeps promoting rigid behaviors and shame-based messages, but she believes that compassion is the key to all. It's only when we give ourselves the grace to embrace ourselves fully, no matter where we are in our journey, that we can actually release from harmful patterns, thoughts and behaviors and start fully standing in our power.
For her health has to be all-encompassing: mind, body and soul. By addressing our emotional health and physical health as inseparable from one another, we're better equipped to make enlightened choices. Her signature programs include individualized programs for her clients, either in-person or in a distance format, with her Fit Feisty Fabulous coaching, as well as teaching kettlebell classes at a local studio.
Her greatest success as a coach include helping her clients believe in themselves. It may seem simplistic, but many of them have come to her very apologetic, and doubting their own capacities, often layered with preexisting conditions like chronic illness or underlying injuries. To watch them gain confidence and strength, both physically and mentally, is probably the most rewarding thing about her work.
So who is Fabi outside of being a fantastic coach? Check out her answers to some of the questions I asked her.
What is your favorite book?
There's no way I can choose! I'm an avid reader, and devour books at an astonishing pace.
What is your favorite quote?
"Think and act from a place of LOVE, not from a place of fear." - Fabi, herself
What is your favorite thing to do for a workout?
I'm a certified kettlebell instructor, and love using them for my own training as well.
What is one thing/quirk no one knows about you?
I have an innate talent at making terrible puns. I'm also a textbook introvert, which means that the deep connections that I foster with people also have to be balanced with a lot of alone time.
What do you like to do in your free time?
As a busy mother, the concept of "free time" feels a little foreign to me! BUT, I'm actually carving out time for myself to explore new interests, and I've recently taken up Burlesque dancing. I L-O-V-E it!
If you jive with Fabi's personality (she's pretty amazing), be sure to follow her on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
